Dr. Misbah Shafiq is a dedicated and passionate optometrist who graduated from the New England College of Optometry Class of 2020. With a strong foundation in public health from Rutgers University, Dr. Shafiq has cultivated a robust understanding of her patients' healthcare needs.

 

Since joining Washington Eye Institute, Dr. Shafiq has been committed to providing exceptional eye care. She has experience in ocular disease management, contact lens fitting, and pediatric optometry.

 

Dr. Shafiq’s journey in optometry included externships at various esteemed institutions such as Bay Pines VA Hospital, West Roxbury VA Hospital, and Cornea and Laser Eye Institute in Teaneck, New Jersey. Her role as an Advanced Optometric Technician at Eyecare Unlimited, Inc. and her long-term shadowing of Dr. Jose Pierre at Eye Care Unlimited provided her with invaluable practical insights and essential skills. She also gained pediatric neurosurgery exposure while volunteering at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, further enriching her medical expertise. During her time on the West Coast in Corvallis, Oregon, Dr. Shafiq laid a foundation for her career at Eyecare Associates, where she gained valuable experience in treating conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and managing patients with traumatic brain injuries and low vision.

 

Dr. Shafiq emphasizes the importance of communication, teamwork, and leadership in her practice and daily life.
