Dr. Diana Chu is a board-certified medical optometrist practicing at Washington Eye Institute in Greenbelt and Rockville, Maryland, and serving as Clinical Lead in Surgical Co-Management and Specialty Care within the ReFocus Eye Health network. She earned her Doctor of Optometry from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, completed advanced clinical training in ocular disease and post-surgical care at the Philadelphia VA Hospital, and pursued specialized training in corneal disease and scleral contact lens design at the Illinois Eye Institute of Chicago. Her undergraduate studies in Food Science and Human Nutrition Physiology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign laid the foundation for her integrative care philosophy one that considers the role of overall wellness and nutrition in ocular recovery, disease prevention, and long-term eye health. Dr. Chu's first priority is to listen and understand each patient's unique concerns, then deliver personalized care tailored to their individual needs.

Dr. Chu is recognized as a clinical leader in the management of dry eye disease, keratoconus, scleral contact lenses, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and the care of surgical patients. She specializes in scleral contact lens fittings, with particular expertise in lenses for patients with corneal ectasia, keratoconus, myopic degeneration, and severe ocular surface disease. Dr. Chu is devoted to utilizing advanced contact lens technologies to restore vision and comfort for patients with irregular corneas and complex ocular conditions. She actively participates in clinical specialty contact lens research trials and publishes articles in modern eye care journals, ensuring her patients benefit from the latest evidence-based approaches.

Dr. Chu serves as Vice President of the Central Maryland Optometric Society and holds a position on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Optometric Association, where she also contributes to the Young OD Committee and Education Committee. She provides lobbying support for the American Optometric Association, working to expand access to high-quality medical eye care nationally and internationally. During her training, Dr. Chu served as Missions Coordinator for FCO at ICO and participated in a mission trip to Zacapa and Chiquimula, Guatemala, and she volunteered as a student clinician through the Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes Program. She regularly lectures on a range of clinical topics and remains actively engaged in advancing the profession through education and advocacy.
