Dr. Michael Summerfield is the founder of Washington Eye Institute, bringing over a decade of hands-on experience to every patient interaction. Board-certified in ophthalmology, he earned his biology degree summa cum laude from Emory University and his medical degree with honors from the University of Maryland before completing his residency at Georgetown University/Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Summerfield believes every patient deserves a care plan built around their individual needs and goals, and that philosophy drives every decision he makes.

Beyond clinical care, Dr. Summerfield serves as the Ophthalmology Residency Program Director at Georgetown University and Washington Hospital Center, where he trains the next generation of eye care specialists. His commitment to service includes an ophthalmology relief mission in Honduras, volunteer work with the Friends of the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus Foundation, and partnering with WNEC and local charitable organizations to identify undiagnosed eye diseases across the Washington area.
